MCC Issues NRI Quota Eligibility Notice for UG/PG Counselling 2026-27
MCC has outlined NRI quota eligibility criteria and stated that supporting legal evidence may be sought during counselling for academic year 2026-27.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a notice for candidates intending to apply under the NRI quota in upcoming UG/PG counselling for the academic year 2026-27. The notice also addresses candidates who claim NRI/OCI status or want their nationality converted from Indian to NRI.
MCC has referred to the Supreme Court order in W.P. No. 13393 of 2007 and others (2008), Anshul Tomar vs. State of M.P., which sets out criteria for NRI quota seats. According to the notice, eligibility may be considered where a candidate's mother or father is an NRI ordinarily residing abroad, or where a first-degree relation is an NRI ordinarily residing abroad.
The notice also describes conditions for cases in which an NRI nearest relation seeks to be considered the candidate's guardian. Listed blood relations include real paternal and maternal uncles and aunts, grandparents, and first-degree paternal and maternal cousins. The person must be an NRI ordinarily residing abroad, must have looked after the student as guardian, and must submit evidence and an affidavit.
MCC stated that it or the competent authority will seek evidential proof or legal documents during counselling to establish that the sponsor is the candidate's bona fide legal guardian in accordance with the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890.
